So Britain is to have a Serious and Organised Crime Agency (assuming this story is not in a fact the Grauniad's annual spoof). I guess it will make a change after all the entirely risible and thoroughly disorganised crime agencies like MI5 and the Metropolitan Police. On which note, a recently overheard conversation:

Dame Eliza Manningham-Buller: "I think I'm going to get a Brazilian."
Sir Ian Blair: "I already did".

Eliza Manningham-Buller is such a wonderful name. I think it was Alan Coren who said it sounded like she'd fallen out of a Betjeman poem. Tenis partner with Joan Hunter-Dunn probably.

Her father was known to his contemporaries as "Bullying Manners" and is generally considered to be one of Anthony Powell's inspirations for Kenneth Widmerpool in "A Dance to the Music of Time".

Really? Excellent. I'm going to try to work my way through A Dance to the Music of Time after I've finished Buddenbrooks.

I hope you enjoy Dance as much as I have on my several readings of it.

Just 'cause it's funny and I always wanted to tell someone: My ex who worked at a salon said that when a man gets a "Brazillian" it's referred to as a "boyzillian"

I heard that the most typical male wax job was known as the 'back, crack and sack' wax. Ouch.

Er, am I the only one who winced at Sir Ian Blair's comment? Has the full story of the police response to the July bombings not crossed the Pond?

I don't think the full story has made it as far as the IPCC

I thought some of the earlier posts were a bit too inappropriately humorous.

I'm fairly sure this year's Gruniad April Fool was its page three story about Chris Martin of Coldplay recording a single to boos David Cameron. Fairly sure.

So I read elsewhere but as I had no idea who Mr. Martin might be it fell a bit flat.
