For those of you who were confused by my last poll 'stotty cake' (pronounced, roughly, 'st'tt' cayake' is a flat, dense loaf often sliced horizontally and filled then cut in wedges to make a kind of sandwich. I've never come across it anywhere other than Northumberland and Durham which probably explains why [livejournal.com profile] gillo is the only other person on the flist to have eaten it. (ETA: and [livejournal.com profile] f4f3. I wondered where he was lurking.)

A 'Southron' in this context is an English person who is not from one of the six Northern counties. Sorry [livejournal.com profile] gillo!

Aaaargh! Not fair! I am
NOT

I was so disappointed when Greggs moved out of the North East into teh rest of the country but didn't bring stotties with them.

Well I was annoyed that Greggs moved out of Scotland into the North East and didn't bring bridies with them...

Greggs - betrayal with bread products for decades...

Typical Scots really; stealthily creeping southward. They'll be letting one of them become PM next.

Nah. That would be too far-fetched. Like having Camerons and Campbells leading main political parties at the same time as a Fettes-educated PM.

Bannockburn - time for a recount.

Too late. The rot set in 400 years ago when we let one of them become king.

I'd never heard of them either until I moved to Geordie land, and, to be honest, don't miss them much these days...

Hm, interesting. I've seen "Southron" used to describe US Southerners as well, which is why I clicked that in the poll. Disregard, then :)

I have only seen "southron" as a US term, and so answered that I am not one.
Normally I would say I am from the Fens, not the south, but as being southern seems to be unpopular it must be good and I should therefore have given the opposite answer.

*cough* Oxfordshire-born-and-bred person who has eaten it *cough*

I was away from the computer, and haven't read back as far as the poll yet.

It's usually the one with the Geordie-born grandad. :)
