I am, of course, boycotting the Olympics because not only is it a hideous display of government funded, genetically engineered, drug addled cheats held in a country with a human rights record of Zimbabwean standards but because most of the events are just plain silly. So, the only thing of interest is what events should be added for next time. Therefore a poll.

I thought it was supposed to represent the skills required of a staff officer. If so, it might perhaps be changed to Powerpoint, writing sycophantic press releases, spot the acronym (or STA as we afficianados call it), Humvee obstacle course and dodge the suicide bomber.

That sounds interesting as well.
I'm not sure that all those events are suitable for staff officers, though. They'd need fencing and pistol shooting in case they get into any duels, and some degree of horse riding would be useful, particularly if they are British (or brigadier Gerard) and need to go chasing after a fox. But surely no staff officer would run or swim?

Edit:
Wikipedia says that its the skills needed by a cavalryman behind enemy lines. So, we should perhaps have tank driving, gunnery, mechanical repair, map reading and escapology to bring it up to date.

answer to Edit: That would give the Russians an unfair advantage.

If things are still anything like they were in the 80s then the Russians may have quantity, but not quality. So, we could still win.
In fact, there's already a competition (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Army_Trophy) for tank gunnery.

I suppose we'd have to call that one Postmodern Pentathlon, or maybe Post-Imperial Pentathlon?
